The Chandler School is a compact, dynamic, thriving educational environment that serves students in grades K-8 who have been diagnosed with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia.
Multi-Sensory, Small Group Learning
Our classes and activities employ a kinetic/hands-on approach to learning. In addition to a multisensory approach, all Chandler School faculty are Orton-Gillingham trained. We teach our students to read, comprehend, and write through a structured, sequential, systematic, alphabet-phonetic approach to instruction. We provide individualized reading and language tutorials and small group instruction in areas of greatest academic need.
Our Beliefs
All students have the capacity to learn. Children with language-based learning differences can reach their academic potential through a combination of perseverance and proper instruction within a positive and supportive environment.
Experiential Learning
Our academic philosophy is strongly rooted in the belief that students learn best through lived experiences. The Chandler School offers unparalleled opportunities for students to encounter rare moments of learning and gain practical life experiences. Such learning happens on every outing from our annual Table Rock camping trip to our class trips to locations as varied as the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the National World War Two Museum in New Orleans, and the Lincoln Memorial on the Mall in D.C.
“At the Chandler School, we firmly believe making mistakes is how we learn best. It’s that unbelievable feeling of removing the training wheels for the first time.”
— Dana Blackhurst, Founder of the Chandler School
